Dairy Free, Soy Free, Gluten Free Breakfast Shake that you just mix in your blender. With chocolate flavor and bananas, how can you go wrong? I came up with the Carobana shake after going to our local Celiac Expo. There was a girl who was talking about a recipe with Carob Powder in it and she highly recommended us trying this foreign pod. I have been wanting to try Carob for quite some time but I think the idea we purchase dogs treats with it, somewhat discouraged me. Which is silly since when I cook for them I give them healthy versions of our food and I feed them many similar vegetables daily, anyway.
So, finally I bought some and gave it a go. It really is quite good, but it is different then chocolate, of course. I want you to know, I just went downstairs into my stocked pantry and retrieved both my Carob Powder and very good quality Cacao Powder and tasted them both to give you the most accurate comparison. To my surprise I actually liked the Carob powder better. Yeah I know, like I said, I was surprised. It must be the natural sweetness. So if you are curious about the flavor, it is not as rich, it is pleasantly sweet, and it does have a somewhat earthy peppery flavor to it and a slight aftertaste when eaten by itself. I have made this quick smoothie for family and friends and after I told them it wasn’t chocolate, they couldn’t believe it. That is awesome, right?
Now for the recipe. I have spent some time playing with decreasing the liquid, so I would have a treat too. It worked very well. I have been using this slightly altered recipe to make myself and my hubby a snack or dessert, especially in the summer time! It cools us off, and being in Arizona in the Summer it is very needed! You can dress it up with different seasonal fruit and Wa Laa, it is a nice treat (and healthy, shh we will keep that tid bit on the down low) fun for you, the kiddos, friends, or family. So EnJoy and tell us what you think.
