Teal Pumpkin & Trick or Treating
The Teal Pumpkin Project
A follower of mine on Instagram enlightened me to this project and I wanted to share it with you all immediately, just in case any of you could use this information for either this year or preparing for the next. Trick or Treating can be a scary thing for those kids with food allergies, food sensitivities, or other diseases that have worse consequences. This project looks like it could help. We need to help raise awareness together.
Food Allergy Research and Education or FARE is a non-profit organization formed from the merger of Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network and the Food Allergy Initiative back in 2012. Their mission statement from their website http://www.foodallergy.org/about:
FARE’s mission is to find a cure for food allergies, and to keep individuals with food allergies safe and included.
This Halloween, FARE is trying to start a new tradition with the Teal Pumpkin Project. To help the children with food allergies, they are encouraging homes to provide non-food treats. They have a couple signs that are free to print and place in your windows, to help raise awareness and notify kids with food allergies about your participation. By signing up on their website, this creates a map of all the locations participating in the project. So if you are heading out with the kids, check the map as well. To visit their website for more information, locations, a list of non-food treats and more visit….
As a side note, I have given out playing cards (toy story themed and princess themed) and the plastic rings like the bats, skulls, spiders, but my best friends hubby gave out glow bracelets and those were the biggest hit by far. You can find the glow bracelets sometimes; at dollar stores, in the dollar section of Target, walgreens and other pharmacies. If you check the pricing per pc. often it is cheaper than candy. So check it out, and maybe stock up with non-food treats at the after Halloween sales for next year. Sales are the best the day after and by 2 days later it is almost cleared out.
Wishing you all a fun and safe Halloween!
